World No. 5, Ons Jabeur, is the pioneer of Tunisiantennis. She is the first Tunisian woman to reach multiple Grand Slam finals. She might not have won any of those finals, but she has surely inspired a new generation of Tunisian players by becoming the tennis idol in her country. Aziz Dougaz was one of the many people who took inspiration from Jabeur and started pro tennis. He started playing professional tennis in 2020 but was stopped due to the dreaded pandemic. At the moment, he is ranked 233 in the world but is looking to make it to the qualifying stages. He recently spoke about the kind of positive impact Ons made on his life and wants to follow in her footsteps to reach the Grand Slams.
He is happy about the reach of the sport in his country and credits Ons for that. He said, “And Ons is the same way; now tennis is so popular in Tunisia, everyone’s watching it in the cafes, watching all her matches; it’s unbelievable; no one could have thought about that.” He continues by saying that nowadays, many kids have started to play tennis, and most of them look up to Ons Jabeur as their role model.
When asked about his performance. Aziz said, “I am working hard every day to improve my game.” He is determined to reach a new height that no Tunisian player has reached and wants to make his country extremely hard. Aziz is ready to put in the hard work to get fruitful results.
Ons Jabeur, known for her humbleness and positive attitude, has been a role model for many in her country and around the world as well. She has been one of the figures trying to spread awareness about the importance of education in her country. Many children are being inspired by this never give up attitude of Ons and are trying to follow in her footsteps.
Jabeur’s fellow country player Aziz Dougaz, is also another tennis player who wishes to do more in the name of his country. He is “finding ways to perform” by learning from different coaches from around the world in order to improve his game. Nonetheless, Aziz finds happiness and pleasure in competing with others, is on the road to improving his rank, and hopefully can see the light at the end of the dark and long tunnel.
