CAVB: Tanzania Play in Rwanda in Plate Event

AFTER failing to advance to the top 16 stage of Africa National Volleyball Championship, Tanzanian envoys play Rwanda in the plate event in Cairo today. Despite a challenging game against experienced Tunisia, the Tanzania team demonstrated a good game. It earned a spot in the knockout stage of the weeklong tournament which is hosted in Cairo, Egypt. Team manager, Riziki Godwin acknowledged the strength of the Tunisian team who dominated the game, particularly in the first two sets during their battle, however praised his side’s ability to regroup and secure a set to lose 3-1 sets.

Godwin said they have learned a lot from their game against Tunisia and they are going to utilize the experience earned to perform better in their coming games. Now, Tanzania is poised to face neighbor’s Rwanda as another formidable adversary, with aspirations of advancing further in the competition and bringing pride to the country. However, he added that they respect their opponent as among the good sides  but cautioned them that they are determined to give the best performance on the court and progress further in the competition.

Tunisia is currently at the top of Group B with nine points, having won three games against Mali, Chad, and Tanzania. Chad slot in the second position behind Tunisia and both the two sides have made it into the knockout stage while Tanzania are positioned third with three points after securing a 3-1 victory over Mali but suffering defeat against Chad and Tunisia.

The 2023 Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship is organized by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB). The tournament commenced on   September 3 and climaxed on September 13 whereby the top three teams will qualify for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
