Consumer prices in Tajikistan increased by 0.5% in January 2023, the country’s Agency for Statistics reports. In particular, food products rose in price by 0.5%, non-food products – by 0.9%, paid services to the population – by 0.1%.
Among foodstuffs, vegetables (9.5%), buckwheat (7.7%), rice (5.6%), milk (3.6%) went up the most. The increase in prices for non-food products is primarily due to an increase in the cost of household appliances (2.5%), detergents (2.4%), pharmaceutical products (0.9%), clothing, footwear and building materials – 0.5% every.
A slight increase in tariffs for paid services (0.1%) was mainly due to an increase in the cost of repairing and tailoring shoes, real estate tax, and services of preschool institutions.
Recall that in 2022, consumer prices in the republic in the context of the aggravation of the geopolitical situation and high inflation in the world increased by only 4.2%, which is one of the lowest levels in the recent history of Tajikistan.
Prices for foodstuffs last year increased by 5.2%, non-food products – by 4%, and paid services to the population increased by only 1.9%.
The target inflation rate in 2023 remains within 6.0% (±2 percentage points), as it has been for the past few years.
